How To Get Rid Of Stinky Cloth Diapers
How to get rid of stinky cloth diapers!
Hey everyone!
I'm back with my second installment in my series about the wonderful world of cloth diapering!
Today we're gonna learn how to take care of a problem we all dread..stinky diapers.
So let's dive in!
Stinky diaper troubleshooting:
-Are you using a strong detergent?
A lot of moms like to make their own diaper detergent to save money. But in my experience(as well as others), stink is sure to happen if you do not use a strong detergent capable of getting rid all that stinky stuff and preventing build up. I use Tide, and always wash my diapers on HOT.
-Are you bleaching your diapers regularly?
Many cloth diaper brands discourage bleaching your cloth stash, but if you know how to do it correctly, it can become an essential part of your cloth diapering routine! I'll have my bleaching routine below!
Despite making sure you incorporate both of these things into your routine, build up can still happen over time, causing a stinky result. Below I've listed some of my tricks that are sure to get rid of the funk!
What I do to get rid of stinky diapers:
-Vinegar Wash
This is an age old trick and it uses vinegar, something you probably already have in your household! Simply wash your diapers using your normal routine, but add 1/2 cup-1 cup of white vinegar to the load. It'll help break down some of the build up and refresh your diapers!
-Air Dry Your Diapers
This is an amazing trick in the summertime, just imagine your stash of diapers floating on a clothesline blowing in the summer wind. Yep, it's amazing, and it works!
-Add Lemon Oil To Your Dry Cycle
Simply add a few drops of lemon essential oil to your diapers when you throw them in the dryer!
Bleaching Your Diapers:
Important things to remember when bleaching is: Don't add too much bleach, and make sure you get all of it out before using your diapers on your baby again. Below I've listed how to bleach you diapers step by step in pictures:
